The Mohegan Sun Resort is located along the banks of the Thames and it measures 240 acres across. The natural surroundings around the resort are very scenic. 60% of Connecticut’s state tourism is concentrated in this area. The resort features the state’s professional sports team as well as the Women’s National Basketball association.

Speaking a little it about history, the resort was developed by Trading Cove Associates. The company had entered into a joint venture with Kerzner International, Mohegan Tribe and Waterford Gaming. Kohn Pedersen Fox Associates did the exteriors and the luxury hotel towers of the resort cum casino. The Rockwell Group designed the casino as well as the gaming space and restaurants. It was Hirsch Bedner Associates who took over the design of the 1,200 rooms of the resort as well as hotel interiors and meeting places.

The resort also has three additional entertainment venues like the Mohegan sun Arena, the Wolf Den that has 300 seats and the Cabaret theatre that has 350 seats. For those die hard shopping fans, the resort has 1,30,000 sq ft. of retail shopping place with brands from all over the world in different categories.

The first casino in the resort was known as Casino of the Earth, while the second casino which opened in 2001 was named Casino of the Sky. The Mohegan Sun Resort has been covered often by the ESPN sports channel. This is because the channel broadcasts the WNBA shows taking place in the resort live. The resort also developed its first gaming venture outside the state of Connecticut after it purchased the Pocono Downs Racetrack in Pennsylvania in 2005. The casino began to operate in the year 2006. Expansion plans were already developed for this resort also. Casino of the Wind will be introduced and the project will get over by 2010. Casino of the Wind will have a total of 964slot machines along with 10 table games and 45 poker tables. The new resort sum casino will also have 1,000 hotel rooms for the guests to stay in. There is also a 10,000 sq. ft indoor swimming pool.
